Salvatore Bono (
Sonny) met Cherilyn Sarkisian (
Cher) at an LA coffee shop in 1962, when she was 16 and he, a record producer, was 27. They started dating as Sonny helped Cher break into the music business. They married in 1964. Phil Spector put them together with "Sonny & Cher." They released 8 albums and numerous singles, the most popular being "
I Got You Babe," "
The Beat Goes On," and "
All I Ever Need Is You." They released 2 movies and had 2 TV shows. Chastity (Chaz) Bono was born in 1969. As "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" got popular, their relationship deteriorated, and both the show and the marriage ended in 1975.
