Sweet Home Alabama

Today I am going to Alabama, the first actual overnight trip of my spring break. I'm quite excited, because we are going to my great-aunt -uncle's cabin. It has no Internet, so I'm writing this in the car on my iPhone... I'm so cool, right? :) Anyways, I've got my Captain (from Captain and Tennille of course!) glasses, outfit inspired by Jane Asher, and a playlist of Beatles, Stones, Dylan, and the Doors, so I think today's gonna be pretty good!
Some random good photos for a random good day:

The outfit that inspired mine today

I seriously have glasses just like his! Haha

I wish I was going down the road in this van! I'd feel like a Merry Prankster. ;)

My favorite Beatles album, Revolver

Another favorite, the Rolling Stones' Aftermath

Of course, The Doors

Well, I hope whoever reads this is having, had, or will have an amazing spring break, possibly resembling the beach scenes from Help!

Paul appears to be wearing some Jackie O glasses... Haha

The Lizard King

Jim Morrison was a musician, song/poetry writer, actor, and filmmaker. He is best known as the frontman of '60s and early '70s rock band, the Doors. He was born December 8, 1943 and when he was 4, he witnessed a car accident involving a Native American family. This is said to have scarred him for life. He attended college at FSU and then UCLA, and met his longtime girlfriend, Pamela Courson, in 1965. After he graduated, he started writing poetry and songs (with the help of psychedelics) and created a band, the Doors, with Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robbie Krieger. Morrison and Krieger wrote most of the music. They gained recognition and had a debut album out in 1967. Jim became an idol to the generation with his crazy stage persona and good looks, featuring hip long hair and iconic leather pants. He defied authority by using the forbidden line "Girl we couldn't get much higher" on national TV. Soon though, fame got to him. He was having multiple affairs with women such as Nico, Janis Joplin, and Grace Slick, yet stayed with Pam. Alcohol made him gain weight and he grew a beard. He went too far with a stage performance in 1969 ("indecent exposure"), and married another woman, Patricia Kennealy, in a Pagan ceremony in '70. The Doors made one more album with him, L.A. Woman, before he went to live in Paris with Pamela in 1971. He died on July 3, 1971, at age 27 for unknown causes, most likely drugs. His death is surrounded in mystery, and Pam died 3 years after.
He continues to influence rock performers/singers today.

I love Mr. Mojo Risin'. Now I feel like doing a Pamela post... Hmm.

We Could Be So Good Together

To kick off February, the month of Valentine's Day and all the love that comes with it, I am going to blog about some interesting couples/relationships from times past. Every day I will post a new one, so get ready!
Jim Morrison of The Doors met Pamela Courson at The London Fog on the Sunset Strip in 1965. She was an art student and he was a musician (The Doors had not yet made it big. That happened in 1967). He wrote many songs and poems about her, including "Blue Sunday," "Indian Summer," "L.A. Woman," "Love Street," "Orange County Suite," "Queen of the Highway," "We Could Be So Good Together," and "Wild Child." He called her his "cosmic mate," and she took his last name (though they weren't officially married). Jim financed Themis, a store that Pam ran (which reminds me a bit of the Beatles' Apple Boutique, hmm?). Though they were both unfaithful, they ended up with each other in Paris in 1971, where he died. She was distressed after his death, and died in 1974 from a drug overdose. Unfortunately, they weren't buried in the same place (Jim is in Paris, Pamela is in California) but now I believe they're in heaven together.
Here are some photos:
